In turbulent times, trust and collaboration thrive on consistency, empathy, and shared purpose. A "boss from hell" reacts impulsively, breeds fear, and isolates team members, while a "boss from heaven" provides stability, listens deeply, and unites the team around a common goal. Start by being transparent about the challenges, acknowledging uncertainty without sugarcoating, and committing to a plan of action. Empower team members to solve problems collectively by leveraging each other’s strengths and fostering cross-functional partnerships. Regularly recognize efforts and progress, which not only builds trust but also keeps the team motivated and collaborative through difficult circumstances.

Turbulence is part of any work environment over a long period of time . Getting team understand that there will be trying times in cycles is crucial . Not every day . Not every moment is gonna be the same hunky dory ride. So as a leader you need to be able to bring people to reality on these aspects .

In turbulent times, trust and collaboration are built through transparency and active listening so, for this reason I believe in creating an open dialogue where team members feel safe expressing concerns. Sharing both successes and challenges builds credibility and strengthens bonds. Encouraging collaboration through cross-functional projects also helps foster unity and a sense of shared purpose and when the team feels their voices are heard and their contributions valued, trust becomes the foundation, enabling the group to navigate challenges with resilience and collective strength.

During turbulent times, I’ve found that open communication and shared accountability are key to fostering trust and collaboration. In the Conflict Resolution initiative I led, we introduced the "5 Dysfunctions of a Team" framework by Patrick Lencioni, which helped the team acknowledge issues like lack of trust and fear of conflict. Through regular transparent meetings, we rebuilt trust and reinforced collaboration. Additionally, team-building exercises were crucial in breaking down silos and fostering camaraderie. "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" by Lencioni is an excellent read for building trust in tough situations. Building trust in a team is like flying a kite—when the wind picks up, you need a strong line to keep it steady! ????
