When I faced this scenario I encouraged the team to use the "free" time to do trainings, get certifications, as such activities would not only empower them as professionals but would also be a very good preparation for the moments of high demand, when they are allocated and busy 100% of time.

Then, I create moments for team bonding—whether it’s a quick break together or a fun activity—to keep spirits up. I also encourage skill-building or certifications, turning downtime into a growth opportunity. Finally, I make sure to recognize each person’s efforts with genuine appreciation, so everyone feels valued. This approach keeps morale high, turning a routine pause into a positive experience.
