Keeping productivity high during peak season with rising absenteeism can be challenging. Taking steps like implementing flexible scheduling or adding temporary support can help ease the load while cross-training team members can ensure continuity and keep momentum steady. These proactive measures can support your team in meeting goals despite the demands of the peak season.

To handle peak season absenteeism while maintaining productivity, start by prioritizing essential tasks to ensure critical work is completed. Implement flexible scheduling and temporary reassignments to fill gaps and balance workloads. Cross-train employees in advance so team members can step into different roles as needed. Consider hiring temporary staff or freelancers to manage demand, and motivate the team with incentives like bonuses or flexible hours. Streamline workflows to ease the strain on available staff. These strategies help keep productivity up, even with high absenteeism.

2024 proved challenging for some as North America and UK had many people out of work or looking for extra work just to get by. It is the worst I have ever witnessed. Professionally, we had 3 clients in Canada, June 2024, lose their department heads to "mental anguish" (Canada is very open to mental health issues and the law dictates 3 months off with full pay) and without these key folks, their systems would not be implemented correctly. This did happen. Lucky enough, we were able to have Consultants in place within 48 hours, 2/3 consultants ended up being engaged for long term contracts! Lesson learned: Be prepared in May for the June debacle.
