They deliver the news; it should be that simple. So, if there is any member of the team that's divided, the news isn't simple enough. Yes, a press release should include a bit of background on the company and context, etc, but it should be starkly clear what key messages you want to get across. There shouldn't be room for content that is divisive; it's either news, or it's not. If it's not, you're wasting your time as a journalist will see straight through an attempt to present them with a release that's waffly and unclear on its key messages.
