Change is hard for everyone. Even those of us who manage it professionally. To help a team member embrace innovation: 1. Spend some time to focus on what is NOT changing. That can be key in helping a team member feel rooted when everything around them feels foreign. 2. Try to break the changes into smaller events. (Next week we will introduce the first part of the new tool and then 2 weeks after that another feature). 3. Make sure to provide multiple options for training, help and practice. 4. Reinforce the positives to client experience to help with acceptance. Innovation shouldn’t make team members unnecessarily uncomfortable. Reassurance during change is responsible leadership.

I take a deep breath and try to understand where they're coming from. I have a one-on-one chat with them, and I ask questions like, "What's driving your concerns about changing this process?" or "What do you think we might lose if we adopt this new approach?" By listening actively and empathetically, I can usually identify the root of their resistance. Then, I share my vision for innovation, and I explain how it aligns with our startup's goals and values. I also involve them in the problem-solving process, asking for their input on how we can adapt and improve our new approach. By making them feel heard, valued, and part of the solution, I can usually win them over and get everyone in the same direction!

I'd bridge the gap with a conversation and create a shared vision. I'd lead with empathy and understanding. Then, I'd remind them that Blockbuster did not change. I don't want that for us.

s'assoir autour d'une table tous ensemble et expliquer que tout peu se faire à partir du moment ou il y a des explications justes. Et que l'on peut innover sans toucher profondément à la tradition

When a team member is stuck in tradition while the rest are pushing for innovation, it’s all about finding common ground. Start by really listening to their concerns and showing you understand. Use your words to express why innovation matters, but do it respectfully, not aggressively. Stay calm, even if tensions rise, and manage your emotions. Choose your words wisely, tone and body language can make all the difference. Finally, try to see things from their perspective and find a way to merge the old and new. It’s about working together, blending ideas, and moving forward as a team.
