First you need to test the organic content in soil. It it is lower than the min standard, then apply organic fertilizer such as cow dung or any compost from organic source. This will allow to revitalize the soil health. You also need to test the level of micro nutrients which needs to be replenished externally.

Soil health is the key. Building the soil structure through the addition of organic matter is the crucial first step. This brings in worms and biodiversity within the soil. Which begins to bring it back to life and health. It takes some time but is a long term healer rather than a short term fix.

Do your soil test first to determine the soil nutrient status. Based on the test result, u will have a clearer direction to make informed decisions. Eg. If there is available phosphorus, exchangeable K, low or high pH, and high or low CEC, then you will know the suitable fertilizer formula to use. On the other hand, if the pH is low you will have to do liming to raise the pH and Organic materials to raise CEC. If these conditions are handled, then the fertilizers applied can be useful to plants.

Been my experience to soil sample same location of field at same time every year, gps location be within meter, analysis will more accurate. During crop if I notice difference or deficiency, I will pull tissue test, but this doesn’t give good data. With advent of sap analysis growers are able to get data necessary to address problems before they are a problem and better reaction timing for crop.
