Facing unexpected structural challenges can be a real test, but it’s also an opportunity to strengthen trust with clients. For instance, If we encounter inadequate soil conditions during foundation work, I’d be transparent about the issue and its impact on the timeline and budget. I’d provide regular updates to show we’re actively managing the situation and collaborating with engineers on solutions. Proposing alternatives like reinforcing the foundation or using pilings would demonstrate our commitment to success. By prioritizing open communication and proactive problem-solving, we can turn challenges into opportunities for growth.

One one project where I experienced a structural challenge, the first thing you need to understand is this puts a strain on everyone but specifically the client and the client stands the most to lose from a failed project. A proper approach to this situation is to try to take that mental stress off the client, be the one calling and seeking solutions, be the one making sure the team members are working hand in hand towards a solution, be the one calling the client and giving a heads up on progress in either seeking a solution or implementing one. This strengthens your bond with the client and sustains trust to keep the work relationship going.
