At the ideation itself it is important to establish how the production will be planned if the prototype becomes successful. Hence involve the manufacturing team manager from the onset, so that the prototype is not very theoretical and takes into account the practical considerations of production. Certain things need to be customized, hence you have to plan right from the onset. As you prototype and provide updates, make sure you include production managers in them too. Otherwise the waiting time between prototype finalization and scale up will be high specially if things need to be customized. Keep sheets like BOM, equipment required sheet shared with manufacturing team members relevant to that project

nothing is more important that understanding of operation/manufacturing by R&D. they need to take the lead roll. it is not good to have great product developed if can not the produce or serve to 100% customers satisfaction.
