When a photoshoot location suddenly changes, upholding professionalism and creativity involves adaptability, quick thinking, and maintaining a positive attitude. In my years as a photographer, I've learned that flexibility is absolutely essential, especially when faced with unexpected changes. I remember a time when a planned beachfront shoot suddenly became impossible due to a huge flood, and we found ourselves at a nearby park I was fimilar with. Rather than panic, I saw it as an opportunity to showcase my adaptability and creativity. I quickly reimagined the shoot and communicated to the client this idea to our advantage. This experience taught me that being able to think on my feet and adapt my techniques to any environment not only demonstrates professionalism but often leads to even more compelling results.

Many times I found myself in situations when location we planned to shoot in was not available. And few times it happened when we arrived to find locked doors. I quickly pulled myself together and found new location within a short drive, as natural lighting was quickly changing too. Since this happened so often, I have a few plan Bs in my pocket before I go to a shoot. This skill is a must-have. You never know what can go wrong and we have to be prepared to adapt quickly.

I had Geisha themed shoot that was planned in a beautiful Japanese garden. But that day it was closed due to event. At first, I panicked and thought I failed this particular shoot, there was no revival. I almost decided to cancel, go home and cry. But then I calmed myself down and decided to go on with it. I had to find a new location quickly. I chose to go to the lake nearby. It was a much simpler scene, so I had to work harder on posing and face expressions to compensate lack of an authentic backdrop. I also added elements of flying fabric to add a creative touch. To this day it stays one of my most creative shoots.

Be prepared. If you are in charge of location selection, make sure to have a few plan Bs in your pocket. Before the shoot, I select one main location that I wish to use the most and look at a couple of other locations nearby that I can quickly access in case my first location is not available.
