1 Understand their goals

The first step in communicating with your hospice patients is to understand their goals and preferences for their end-of-life care. To do this, you should ask open-ended questions, listen actively, and respect their choices. Topics to discuss may include their physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs; fears, hopes, and wishes; pain and symptom management options; advance directives and do-not-resuscitate orders; preferred place of care and death; and funeral and bereavement plans. Through this understanding of your patients' goals, you can help them achieve a sense of control, dignity, and peace.

Um item muito importante no cuidado paliativo é saber identificar muito bem essas pessoas, e quando identificado, tem clareza e transparência com a pessoa e familiares. O mais importante, a aceita??o pela alternativa paliativa é do paciente / familiar. Somente eles, podem conceder início ao cuidado paliativo.
