1. Stay Calm and Professional: Respond to the challenge with composure, avoiding defensive reactions that could escalate tensions. 2. Acknowledge Concerns: Recognize the other party’s feelings and perspectives to show you understand their viewpoint. 3. Provide Evidence: Share data, documentation, or references that reinforce your credibility and support your position. 4. Communicate Transparently: Be open about your intentions, decisions, and any constraints to rebuild trust through honesty. 5. Follow Through on Promises: Commit to your agreements and consistently deliver on promises to demonstrate reliability over time.

I think it’s crucial to listen at this point. The worst thing you can do is get defensive. Even if your integrity is being questioned: take the hit! This means asking for direct feedback. Create a space where the other party can be direct with you. Try not to take any of this personally. I would then paraphrase the feedback you’ve been given. “So I’m clear, you’re saying XYZ about how I’ve handled this” Then it’s about simple questions, what do they want instead? How would they prefer you to behave? Next is simply going away. Thinking about their feedback and returning with a plan. This is what I’m willing to agree to, this is what I’m not. Then taking slow and steady action towards a better outcome

Regaining trust in a negotiation requires transparency and sincerity. Begin by acknowledging the concerns raised and express a genuine commitment to address them. Offer a clear explanation of your intentions and ensure your actions align with your words. Actively listen to the other party’s perspective and show empathy for their position. Be open to compromise, finding common ground that respects both parties' needs. Consistently demonstrate reliability through your actions, reinforcing your commitment to integrity. This approach not only restores trust but also paves the way for a successful and respectful negotiation outcome.
-
You must never make compromises regarding your integrity in the first place. But if you made a mistake, say that you are sorry, explain why you did it, ensure the other party that it will not happen again. Then move back to the topics, be open, transparent and collaborative and find solutions for mutual gain.
