A credibility challenge during a Q&A session can be a daunting experience. Handling the situation gracefully and effectively is crucial to reclaiming the spotlight. You can quickly address the challenge without appearing defensive. This demonstrates transparency and respect for the questioner. A calm and collected demeanor can help to diffuse the situation and show confidence in your abilities. Analyze the situation to understand why the challenge arose. Understand that not everybody in the audience will lap up your words. There will be people who are trying to make a point or are just attention seekers. Whatever be the case, it may rattle you. Never allow the thought that "your credibility is challenged" come to your mind. You can throw back the question or comment to the audience and seek their opinion. This will give you time to refresh your thoughts and come up with a composed answer. Or the audience will come up with an input.

Don't just think of predictable questions but think of out-in-left-field questions that could be asked. Rehearsing your answers to those will prepare your mind for when questions come, even if you haven't rehearsed them.

By staying composed and focused, you can turn the challenge into chance to demonstrate your professionalism and your connection with audience.

It is important to stay calm,listen attentively and make sure you understand the question. If the question requires further explanation do it calmly for better understanding. When faced with a question you don't know clearly let your audience know the question is out of your expertise .

Creo que el problema está en pensar en recuperar "protagonismo". Una sesión de Q&A no es para presumir que tanto sabes, sino para aprovechar el espacio en donde están reunidas personas con interés y conocimiento de un mismo tema, para actualizar sus ideas.

The key is to balance conciliation with assertiveness. You should think hard about what you and the challengers likely agree about, and try to affirm it. But you can then immediately mention the disagreement, make clear that you respect their different take, but give the briefest explanation for why you hold your position, all the while being positive and calm and upbeat. If you think cats make the best pets and I think dogs do, I might say "We both agree that having a furry little one waiting for us at home is enriching. You like yours a little more strong-willed and independent, and I like mine a little more obedient and goofy, and that's fine." Even with higher stakes topics, validate their position and yours and stick to your guns.
