Your client refuses to adapt their leadership style. How do you navigate their expectations effectively?

Show them the music their style creates (maybe it's a catchy tune, maybe it's a screeching solo). Strengths Symphony: Highlight their leadership strengths. They're a conductor, not a one-instrument band! Micro-Adjustments: Suggest small, adaptable changes. Baby steps can lead to a whole new leadership orchestra! Success Spotlight: Showcase successful leaders with different styles. There's more than one way to conduct a winning performance. Open Dialogue: Maintain open communication, address concerns. Be a microphone for their voice, not a dictator with a megaphone.

I'd be looking to find ways where my client could see the impact of their current choice of styles, both positive and negative and then help them find small ways they can widen their repertoire - that still feel like 'themselves' not somebody else. My focus would be on small adaptations in behaviours not big changes, assuming they are not causing huge damage.

Change is not easy because people are afraid of the risks and impacts associated with it. They fear that the change may not accommodate their needs. Every person, industry, company, organization, and situation has different needs, interests, and goals. Most clients know what they want but still don't know what they actually need. It is our job as their consultant to assess what they truly need and explain it to them in the simplest and easiest way possible, including the implications and risks.

I find when a client resists adapting their leadership style, it’s crucial to approach the situation with empathy and strategy. I start by understanding their reasons for resistance. It could be fear of losing control. However, building trust through sharing success stories and emphasising the benefits of change is essential. I try and highlight the risks using specific examples to demonstrate how their current style may hinder team performance and organisational growth. I suggest small, incremental changes instead of a total overhaul. Ultimately, by combining empathy, evidence, and strategic persuasion, you can guide your client towards a more effective leadership style that benefits both their team and their own growth as a leader.

People say trust works both ways, but someone needs to start first. People may be resistant because they are scared of the risk and impact of change. We can see the problem and know the solution for the client's problem, but if they do not trust us, they won't listen and will resist. To build trust, we must show them that we trust them and genuinely care about their growth and improvement. Building conversations and listening to understand their needs and goals, along with storytelling about similar problems we have already solved, can help gain trust from clients and make them more receptive to our advice and suggestions.

Building trust gradually is important with breaking the ice with the client first. Initially we need to understand their needs using metaphysics tools. I would start off with building good rapport first and follow up with goal planning

Helping clients to set goals must started with clarity in mind. They must clear with the end in the mind, only then they can plan their goals on how yo achieve the end results

The most important criteria when you suggest tools is that your client sees a benefit in them - and ideally they have a certain curiosity about trying them. As with everything else in coaching, it's about your client's will. Don't force any tools on them or try to convince them of their benefits. Rather, offer a few tools and have a conversation around them: - which tool sounds interesting? - which tool could help in your current situation and how? - which tool is the least interesting to you? (This question can be very interesting - by "dissecting" the tool the client might get interested in the tool because their original opinion was based on too little knowledge) - which tool would you like your manager to use? ... and so on.

Reflection is a powerful tool for leaders. It allows leaders to notice their thoughts and emotions that would otherwise go unnoticed in the busyness of life. I have found that reflection requires silence. If you are helping others reflect, then embrace the role silence plays in the process. If you are a leader reflecting by yourself, then find silence.

When going through the process of reflection, offer specific, constructive feedback based on observable behaviours and outcomes. Highlight instances where their current leadership style may have led to positive outcomes and where they may have fallen short. Use factual examples to illustrate your points and make the feedback more tangible.

I will incorporate qimen as strategy to help them to solve daily problems and select auspicious dates for them do their important activities especially on managing their team members in finishing their tasks

Building trust is the first step for sure, but another solid step is showing them proof: - Show them proof of how this has helped other clients - Show them case studies of how it has helped other prominent leaders and executives - Give instances from your life and experiences that'll hep them believe in the apparoach you're suggesting
