Prepare. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare (1) Make sure you know your stuff. Also be clear about what you DON'T know. And of course, make sure that what you (think you) know is accurate. Prepare (2) Anticipate the doubts people might have about your information. Would you be able to relate to some of their doubts? "When I first saw this, I too was surprised. But when I checked the source and their methodology, I came to the same conclusion about it." Prepare (3) Rehearse being cool. You want to be able to intentionally reduce your stress with breathing exercises and helpful self-talk. Your body can learn to be less affected by stress.

If a client questions your data, stay calm and listen carefully and actively to their concerns without interrupting. Start by thanking them for their question - it shows respect and keeps things friendly. Then, explain your data clearly, using simple examples if needed. If there’s a mistake or something unclear, admit it honestly and offer to follow up with the correct information. If the data is accurate, show where it came from and why it’s reliable. The key is to stay patient, focused, and open to their feedback so they feel heard and respected.

Anytime you're questioned, especially in a public setting, is an opportunity for you to show your true colors. Make sure those colors are confident ones. No matter what the question, validate it by recognizing, clarify it by asking questions to make sure you understand their concerns, and leave your ego at the door. Why? Because what you say doesn't really matter; how you say it is all that will be remembered. Even if you don't have a great answer, being transparent, authentic, and REAL about your approach will only enhance your overall credibility... Even if you're conceding an L on that one point.
