What I would do, is use an empathetic and open approach. Then, start by acknowledging their doubts, creating a space where they feel heard and validated. Instead of pushing affirmations immediately, explore alternative approaches that resonate with them, such as discussing personal experiences or setting small, tangible goals. Tailoring sessions to their unique needs, while slowly introducing the concept of affirmations in a more personalized and authentic way, can help build trust and allow the client to feel valued and understood in their journey toward growth.

To help a client feel genuinely valued, I focus on being specific and authentic in affirmations, highlighting concrete examples of their efforts or progress. I ensure my body language, tone, and words all convey sincerity, and I avoid generic praise. I also invite the client to share their thoughts on what they value about themselves, reinforcing their strengths. Creating a collaborative atmosphere and regularly checking in on their feelings about the process can help rebuild trust and show that my affirmations are rooted in their actual growth and potential.

Affirmations can be a powerful tool when used properly if not they may harm trust and leave your client doubting your sincerity. Here are key strategies to ensure your affirmations are effective: 1. Be Genuine: Clients and patients can sense when affirmations aren't authentic. 2. Be Specific: Tailor your affirmation to a concrete action. For example, “Your dedication to attending sessions after work shows incredible commitment, especially with everything else you have going on.” 3. Affirm, Don’t Cheerlead: Affirming acknowledges real effort and behavior, while cheerleading can feel hollow or forced. When done correctly, affirmations build trust and motivate change. I love affirmations because they work—when used with intention!
