Listen actively: Let them express their doubts without interruption. Simplify your approach: Use clear, straightforward language to explain the benefits of coaching. Focus on results: Share examples of how coaching has helped others in similar situations. Build trust gradually: Start with small wins to demonstrate value. Tailoring your communication to their concerns builds trust and shows the impact of coaching.

Would speak broadly about the change a potential coaching client is wanting to make or the problem they are wanting to solve. Then ask them how they would feel and what their life would look like once the positive change had taken effect or the problem was solved. Get them to list the positive emotions. Write these words down so they can see them. (iPad if online or flipchart in person) Really take them to a time in the future when things were solved, better or their life was much better. Ask them then - is this something you would like? If yes - demonstrate how you can help them, the potential steps and definitely bring relevant case studies and talk about coaching clients similar to them and the results you got for them.

I adjust my communication style using the "Motivational Interviewing" technique, which emphasizes empathy and open-ended questions. During one of my coaching sessions, this method helped me guide a hesitant client toward self-reflection, which in turn led to their commitment to the process. I avoid being prescriptive, instead fostering a collaborative space where the client feels heard and in control. This not only builds trust but allows them to take ownership of their journey. "The Coaching Habit" by Michael Bungay Stanier offers excellent insights into asking better questions that win over doubtful clients. Winning over a client is like flying a kite—you guide, but the wind (them) does the real work! ????

Acknowledge the client's doubts and validate their feelings, showing empathy and understanding. Build trust by clearly outlining the benefits of life coaching with tangible outcomes. Share stories or examples of how coaching has created measurable success for others, helping them see its potential in their life. Use an "I Do, We Do, You Do" approach—first demonstrating strategies, then collaborating, and finally empowering them to take action independently. Offer a personalized roadmap for success, highlighting specific goals and milestones. This method builds confidence, turning skepticism into trust, and fosters a partnership focused on their growth.
