You want to teach science online. What are the best resources to use?

Ambitious online science lecturers tend to look at features. Focus on where your audience dwells instead! Your choice of platform depends on your goals. * If monetization is an issue, a full-service provider might be an option. * If you're trying to build an audience/community, popular platforms like Youtube, TikTok and LinkedIn are a much better choice. Scientists tend to learn fast, and it's really easy to build organic reach if you consistently provide engaging content. Teaching science online can be both rewarding and challenging, but with the right resources, you can create engaging and effective lessons. Do you want to go Live or pre-recorded? (Zoom/Google Meet), or use a Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Moodle/Teams or via Interactive platforms such as Nearpod? To make your lesson engaging, use breakout rooms and discussion forums, have online games and activities and if possible, connect with other science educators and share resources and request feedback! Want to go beyond, incorporate hands-on activities even in an online setting, be clear and concise with your instruction, show that you are passionate about teaching, and finally, seek feedback and adapt your lessons based on their needs.

In my experience teaching Science courses online, my preference for a platform to use is Blackboard Learn Ultra. I like the inclusion of a gradebook and a familiar, more intuitive than most, means of manipulating the platform. For Labs I prefer HOLScience.com. They will send a box of lab experiments to the students for better hands-on experience. I usually develop my own outline for the course. I find Sharemylessons.com as an excellent source of teaching material.

I'm using sciences subject since a decade ago, especially for the junior high school in my community. I can use different tools in teaching online like my phones by using sophisticated applications using for presentations like zoom, teams, goggle etc. I can also use my computer to facilitate every online activities.

There are some excellent 3D animations on Biozone as well as great practical animations available via focuselearning for the UK GCSE required practicals. When it comes to microscopy you cant beat the ncbionetwork virtual microscope.

Encourage video conferencing tools for live demonstrations and questions and answers session . Teaching science with demonstration method is the best because to understand the students have to see what you are talking about

Multimedia is a useful tool when you can't make an experiment because it causes irreparable damage or it's something you can not make in a laboratory or institution coliseum. For example: When it's about big machines and you can't go on an industrial technical tour, videos are the best way to show all the manufacturing and storage processes, but pause every few minutes, and make the students guess why that works this way or what is coming in the next step.

As previously mentioned focuselearning has some excellent UK required practical animations. The main thing is that the students understand the skills associated with a practical so as to be able to apply these into the typical exam questions that we get with UK exam boards.

Using an interactive e-laboratory can bridge the gap between theory and practical knowledge for online learners. I like Labster.

Experiments can make you realise the magnitude of chemical and physical changes. More importantly, they capture attention to teach the theory behind them.

I couldn't agree more with you in using virtual experiments and simulations when you have aforementioned limitations. But if you could design or incorporate easy to do at home experiments using everyday items then it will definitely create interest among your viewers/ students and you will be able to deliver your lesson effectively.
