Dive into the art of personal branding—how do you navigate the fine line between being true to yourself and exuding professionalism?
-
The line of professionalism is blurred in 2024. How much you decide to share about yourself outside of work and using that to leverage your brand is an individual choice. You have to be comfortable with who you are and the brand you put out in the world, ultimately.
-
Being authentic goes hand-in-hand with being professional. They are complementing and not contradicting. People would like to see you and your content in real life, in simple stories, not bragging about yourself for showing off.
-
Understanding your values, strengths, weaknesses, and passions is crucial to building an authentic brand. Reflect on your experiences, skills, and what sets you apart. Share your personal journey, experiences, and lessons learned to connect with your audience on an emotional level. Authentic storytelling helps you build trust and rapport. Align your brand with your core values and beliefs. This ensures that your actions and messaging are consistent with your authentic self. Example: A social media influencer who shares their passion for sustainable living and promotes eco-friendly products is an example of an authentic brand. Their content is genuine and reflects their values, attracting a loyal following who trust their recommendations.

This is such a timely topic and I’m very interested in learning more. I’ve found it refreshing to truly love my career and therefore I can authentically engage with audience. During times of career transition it has been harder for me to define my personal brand… and I think it’s an ongoing activity. While I want to stay relevant, I also believe there are classic elements of my personal voice that I don’t want to lose. Overall I see the younger generation taking a bold stance to sharing their experiences in ways that redefine professionalism and give a much more personal perspective. I’m excited about redefining my mission as I grow as a woman and a leader.

Being authentic doesn't mean sharing everything about yourself. Show your personality, but keep it work-appropriate. Highlight unique traits that make you great at your job. It's about being real, not oversharing or being unprofessional.
