You want to innovate but lack self-confidence. How can you build it up?

Muchas de las personas más inteligentes que conozco también son las personas que carecen de más confianza debido en gran parte a que se ponen las metas más complicadas y que les toman más tiempo. Por ejemplo, alguna vez conocí a alguien que no se graduaba de la universidad en 10 a?os sólo porque quería hacer su tesis demasiado compleja, lo que para otras personas sería el equivalente a una tesis de doctorado. Es importante quitarse el miedo a enfrentar la crítica y las consecuencias de exponer al mundo algo imperfecto. Y la única manera de hacerlo es precisamente exponerse al mundo. En lugar de prometer el producto perfecto en 10 a?os, prometeré un "prototipo inicial" en 1 a?o y a partir de ahí evolucionaremos.

Setting realistic goals means using cool new methods that mix old-school ways with fresh ideas. Start by making goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Try out tools like OKRs to link goals with big plans. Use data to guide goal-setting and predict outcomes. Stay flexible with agile methods, adapting as you go. Get input from others and use visuals like mind maps or Kanban boards to track progress. With these tricks, you'll set goals that actually make sense and get stuff done!

My experience is that movement begets confidence. Simply set short-term goals that are more action based like creating a business model, validating it, speaking to experts, going to meetups etc'. As momentum is gathered the longer term goals will appear along with confidence.

Lack of self confidence might arise due to multiple reasons, if you work under a manager many a times the manager is not competent enough to get the best out of you and then conviniently blames YOU solely for the lack of productivity or innovation. Try to understand if the organization pushes innovation by culture, it may be your job or your startup, if the answer is Yes, half the job is done. Next, try innovation with small things, take tiny steps which start building your confidence from the foundation, and never be afraid to ask fundamental questions. The only bad questions are the ones never asked, good luck :)

Achievement starts with determination. Set ur goals, enforce it, with consistency and determination it's a success. Not being afraid of failure is a goal goal

Find people with skillset and experience that you don't have yet. Discuss your ideas and see if you can get others to support your cause. If you cannot convince others to support you then how will you get someone to invest in you? As you gain support and learn new things you will gain confidence.

In electronic engineering, leveraging feedback and help from colleagues/peers, mentors, and other experts is key to innovation. Engaging with communities, like IEEE, offers invaluable new ideas and support. However, don't limit yourself to your field alone. Collaborating with professionals from other disciplines can introduce unique perspectives and solutions. In my case, speaking with neuroscientists and clinicians I was working with in a project has significantly helped appreciate my own work better. Being open to constructive criticism and diverse viewpoints not only broadens your understanding but also strengthens your confidence. Embrace these interactions as essential components of your growth and success in engineering.

Innovation is a collaborative effort and cannot be achieved alone. Therefore, when I hear managers say, "think outside the box," I wonder if they understand the true meaning and implications of this phrase. Each person has a box that consists of preconceived notions, experiences, and perspectives. To encourage our company to think beyond its boundaries, we need to create a space where teams can work together, share their boxes, and challenge themselves to generate new solutions. So, let us be mindful of how we use the phrase "think outside the box."

Seek support Nobody is an Isle of knowledge. Colleague of same interest and passion can be of help towards achieving a result. Work with your weakness and allow stronger fellow to fill that gap.

While persevering is key, obtaining a structured feedback is fundamental: data beats opinions in more than one way. Prototyping and benchmarking are common ways to obtain feedback. You may want to seek advice from peers and prospective customers. Build a network of people interested in the same topics: you will not only receive suggestions but also encouragement and, sometimes, help.

I want to focus on the emotional value of becoming oblivious to failure. Anything that scares us must be experienced again and again until it doesn't. Failure is a great gift because we can learn from it. However, it is a scary affair for many because we are humans and failure is painful. Get used to failing, pivot, and then try and try again. This may sound corny but this ability to go to the next iteration without drama is essential.

Any innovation is built on a myriad of failures. The invention of a commercially viable light bulb famously required 1000s of trials and error before success. However, to convert failures to stepping stones towards success you need an open mindset to analyze them and courage to change what's needed.

El fracaso es una palabra inventada por el hombre para definir que algo aun no se ha logrado. No pienses que fracasas, piensa que hay un objetivo por conquistar. El éxito no depende sólo de ti, depende de muchos otros factores (tener un momento de inspiración, que otros no te interrumpan, que los demás piensen igual en ese momento, etc). Lo que si depende de ti es el esfuerzo por lograr el objetivo. Eso no puede negártelo nadie. Si te esfuerzas, tarde o temprano, conseguirás el objetivo. A veces, sucede que no conseguimos el objetivo directamente y debemos dar un rodeo descartando aquello que no sirve. Esa es la parte del fracaso que debes aceptar, el camino que no has de seguir trabajando para conseguir el éxito.

By embracing real-world experiences and confronting challenges, you cultivate mastery and fulfillment, fostering personal transformation along the way.

Learn how to break problems down into manageable chunks. You might not have the experience or confidence to build a large complicated project, but if you break it down into smaller pieces, you'll probably find you can manage a lot more than you expect. Rather than buying one board with 1000+ components on it, can you build a range of breakout boards that take care of individual aspects of the design? You probably can! By splitting the problem up, you can also gain confidence with each block of the design, and as a bonus it makes troubleshooting much easier since you can focus all your efforts on one aspect. Then once all the blocks are working you will have the confidence to bring them together to fulfil your original vision.

Es muy importante ser paciente con uno mismo. El mundo del emprendimiento está lleno de propaganda y ejemplos de líderes de la industria que consiguieron levantar imperios en menos de 2 a?os y sentimos la presión y el apuro de hacerlo en el mismo tiempo. Entiende esto: Ellos son genios, y hay que aceptar que no todos estamos en esa misma posición sobre todo si careces de las mismas habilidades. Labrar ese camino y superarte a ti mismo puede ser una carrera de largo aliento pues nadie cambia de la noche a la ma?ana. Conozco personas que ante el primer problema se frustran y renuncian. Al final del día, quien logra el éxito es el que tiene la mentalidad más fuerte para no darse por vencido, aunque demores 10 o 20 a?os para lograrlo.

Para cultivar la innovación debemos cultivar nuestros hábitos. Para ello te recomiendo: 1. Desarrollar el talento: cuantas más experiencias vidas y más conocimientos diversos adquieras (desde leer poesía hasta hacer un deporte) más puntos de vista podrás conjugar a la vez para encontrar nuevas ideas. 2. Crea el ambiente óptimo: lugares molestos, donde estás sometido a presión, donde te encuentras incómodo, donde se generan otros estímulos que te distraen y con el reloj marcando el tiempo de final son malas opciones para relajarte y dejar fluir tu mente. 3- No pongas barreras a tus pensamientos. Elimina los prejuicios. La idea más loca, bien enfocada, puede ser la mejor idea. No hay malas ideas, sólo hay enfoques inadecuados (sigue luego)

(sigue de antes) 4. Cuida tu cuerpo y tu mente. Un poco de deporte ayuda a mantener el cerebro bien oxigenado y alimentado. La nutrición adecuada es también importante. No es cuestión de prepararse para un decathlon, pero hacer unos minutos de deporte diarios y entender que dormir bien es necesario, te ayudará a un mejor flujo sanguíneo en tu cerebro 5. Aprende a escuchar: cualquiera, incluso aquellos que te critican, pueden darte una idea o ayudarte a dar un nuevo enfoque, incluso sin quererlo. Así que déjales hablar, trata de entenderlo, que no necesariamente es aceptarlo, y saca tus propias conclusiones. A lo mejor te ayudan a resolver algo que aun no habías visto.
