You want to increase your network’s diversity. What are the best ways to do it?

I think if you already have a wide network, then make the most of it. Connect with the connections of your connections!! This can be at an event, seminar, classroom, social media, or a casual Friday evening. Talk to them, ask them about their ambitions and goals, what they like, find common interests, let the debates happen, and while doing all this, try to be open to all the responses and suggestions and show a little sense of humour.

I think its important to find and connect with organizations that you feel passionate about, and stop waiting. The biggest key is the action behind the thought. Don't limit your reach.

In this case, we could use LinkedIn to broaden our exposure and add new diversity to our network. Apart from utilizing platforms, a welcoming attitude and openness could be the best qualities when aiming to connect with a diverse range of people or forming relationships with others.

Many of them is not all, organise networking events which are a great way to meet new people and broaden your network. Some of my favourite diverse organisations are: BYP Network, SEO London, 10000 Black Interns, Coding Black Female, Black Girls in Tech, ColorinTech, etc. I would encourage everyone to subscribe to their newsletters to stay up to date with their activity and to also engage with the content on social media. For many, this might be something outside of your comfort zone and might be daunting at first. Just remember that there are many people in the same boat and you are not alone.

For instance, I went to a lecture on St Augustine and ended up meeting a guy who is pretty popular in the theatrical world. Explore the world, and you WILL find diversity.

If you were to tell my grandparents that their grandchildren would be in the same building as key players of several worldwide companies, they wouldn't know how to respond. There is a very subtle difference in wanting to have someone who knows about Indian culture and wanting an Indian in your network. Few questions to start of with: 1) What do I want to learn about ? 2) Who is the best person to reach out? 3) What is the best way to talk about it with the other person once you have 1 and 2 in place? 4) How do you ingest the information you have received from 3?
