To make your online courses more interesting, use games like Kahoot! or Quizizz for quizzes, hand out badges and points for hitting milestones, and throw in real-life scenarios to make things practical. Gamification is all the rage. When creating e-learning modules, understanding best practices is vital. Align the aspects with learning goals and objectives. Balance is key. The challenges mustn't be too easy or too hard. The goal is engagement, not frustration or boredom.

Ensure that any and all games/simulations authentically reflect the essential aspects of the Performance Tasks and Outputs and Performance Context and Conditions from back on the job and moves from Easy Peasy, to Difficult, to Darn Difficult, and finally to From Hades, to prepare the Learners/Performers for what they are expected to contend with, back on the job.

Ok so I will be provocative. Sometimes don’t bother. Learning is supposed to be hard. Take out the gamification. Make sure everyone understands it’s ok to feel that learning is hard. Introduce copilot to make local learning easier and cool.

Technology must only be a tool at the service of training, and its introduction into teaching must not be to the detriment of the core of the discipline being taught. The goal is not for learners to become professionals in the use of teaching aids, but for them to have a perfect command of the course they have enrolled in.
