Failure is part of the human experience, yet brings negative emotions, including shame, worry, anger, and embarrassment. Negative emotions can alter how we think, how we behave, and impact our well-being. Combined with the damage failure can do to our self-esteem and self-efficacy, you are potentially putting your mental health at risk. Spend time reflecting on your current mental fitness and what you can do to psychologically prepare yourself for this endeavour. After all, you wouldn't run a marathon without a little training first.

Learning personally and professionally are important but within the workplace, it's imperative you tie it to business, team, or department goals so you can measure the impact of the learning. Great leaders are able to plan out what will be needed in coming quarters and work with their direct reports on ways to ensure the team is prepared ahead of time by upskilling and being proactive in learning plans rather than reactive.
