I agree as FDM has taken the biggest portion in the market among hoppiests. It has many cheap options as creality ender printers or anycubic, also you can but cheap materials which is another thing to consider. FDM 3D printer are cheaper than SLA, also the material of FDM is cheaper than that of SLA. So, I recommend starting with FDM as it will give you what you want. But, I don't recommend buying the cheapest printer in the market, as you will face many maintainance issues that can lead you to leave the whole field. You can go for Bambulaps 3D Printers and Prusa, as I find they are the most reliable desktop 3D-printers in the market. 3D printing will need patience and determination, but I can assure you that it is very rewarding.

I put out a poll on this and Creality Ender 3 came up the big winner. However, convincing one of your coworkers that they need to update their rig and then offering to “take their old one off their hands for them” turns out to be a very effective strategy.

There are so many good options available. The whole line of Bambu machines is a no brainer!!???? If you want to print nice parts and don't want to fiddle with the machine to much that's the place to go.

Right now if you need a FDM Printer, Bambulab printers are relatively cheap and very reliable. The set the benchmark of software and hardware tuning.

As an engineering student about 5 years ago, the Creality Ender 3 was my choice at about $200. Some of the really budget brands you can look at are Anycubic & Elegoo. However, expect these printers to need extensive tinkering to make them work well. All 3 of these brands also offer entry-level SLA printers. However, if you're looking for more reliabilty and user-friendliness, I believe Prusa and Bambu Lab have shown to be great options with good customer support and useful features.

In my view, if this is for professional use and your business’s success is hinged on parts produced by this 3D Printer, then DO NOT buy a cheap printer on budget. The goal should always be to buy the most “appropriate” 3D Printer, not necessarily one on budget. So until you can afford the most appropriate one, use a service bureaus, prove out your application and business case, generate revenue and profit and then buy the most appropriate 3D printer to bring the production in house.

If the reasons you are getting a budget printer is to complete 1 project and thinking you might use it for "future projects". Using a service provider would always be the budget option, 1. you would save your team time to learn how to operate and maintain the printer. 2. you can get better and faster feedback on your models from the service provider engineers. 3. you can use this opportunity to try out with different type of printers and materials.

Realize that with 3D printing (especially budget machines), there will be a lot of experimenting and the experience won't be plug-and-play.
