You need to share 3D models with a partner. How do you protect your data?
When sharing 3D models with a partner, it's essential to protect your data without stifling collaboration. To keep your designs safe:
- Use encryption: Encrypt files before sharing to prevent unauthorized access.
- Set permissions: Clearly define who can view, edit, or share your models.
- Monitor activity: Keep track of who accesses the data and any changes made.
How do you ensure the security of your shared 3D models? Chime in with your strategies.

When sharing, not only do you need to protect yourself and your own data but you have a responsibility to protect your partner too. So wear protection. Simple ;) I think I understood the question but now I have a little doubt! But I am in the Top 1% so I must be right. Yeah - I'm right. Double-down on that 'Like' button if you are super cool! Although you might have to hit it again as if you do hit it twice, then you may like then unlike it, so hit it a third time to like it for real. For real ;)

When sharing 3D models with partners, it’s important to protect your work. Here’s how I do it: Clear Agreements: I always start with an agreement that outlines how the models can be used. For example, when I worked with a furniture company, we signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to keep our designs safe. Secure Transfers: I use secure methods like encrypted cloud services to share files. This keeps our models safe from prying eyes. Watermarking: I add a watermark to the models. This helps prevent misuse and shows our brand. Regular Check-ins: I follow up with partners to ensure the models are used correctly. This way, we can solve any problems early. By following these steps, I protect my data while working with others.

When sharing 3D models with a partner, I always prioritize data security by using encrypted file transfer methods, like secure cloud storage or password-protected links. I also ensure the files are backed up and version-controlled before sharing, so I can track any changes. Additionally, I use watermarks or limit access to certain features, like render previews, to protect intellectual property while still allowing collaboration. This way, I maintain control over sensitive assets while ensuring smooth project flow.

Most security issues can be contained upfront in the File setup phase of any project. Setting permissions per user is the first step. Remote logins & secure servers should be enough to insure the safety of the data. If its properly locked up. the Designer / Artist wont have to concern themselves with this issue. And can focus on the job at hand. Its an IT thing.
