You need to create a podcast for your business. What tools do you use to record and edit audio?

Things have changed in the past 6 months or so. All you need is a decent-sounding recording. Then using AI enabled tools like Adobe- Enhance Speech tool. (Which is free) it cleans up spoke word recordings and quickly makes it sound like a high end recording with a high end microphone. It also removes all background noise and echo. So the need for an expensive microphone is no longer necessary.

When I'm at home, I'll use the Blue Yeti microphone. When I'm traveling, I'll use the Samson Q2U microphone (because it's lighter and easier to bring along). Other tools I use as a solopreneur: - Zoom to record both an audio and video file (That said, I'm currently exploring other options such as Riverside) - Garageband for editing (I also recommend Audacity) - Lumina webcam - Libsyn for hosting and distributing my podcast episodes - Social media and my website for sharing my episode after it is published

I used to use my Bose QC overhead headphones, but I decided to upgrade and haven't looked back since! I upgraded to the Shure MV7, it has great audio quality, and it has the option of an XLR and a USB output, so you can add it to a variety of audio setups. It's also super portable and not as expensive or cumbersome as its older brother the SM7B ???

At home, I use the old trusty Audio-Technica - but on the road, I use noise canceling lavaliers. They work great and sound very clear in playback.

When possible I highly recommend recording to two locations so you have your audio backed up. Using a rodecaster I record to a micro sd and to GarageBand. No one likes the feeling of lost audio after an amazing episode

Personally, for virtual episodes, I would recommend Riverside if you are speaking with a guest or with guests, as it allows you to capture clear audio LOCALLY (meaning you won't get choppy audio due to connection issues), and it is a simple, low-cost, high-quality option to get you recorded. But in person, I record on an SD card using either the Rodecaster pro or the Zoom H6.

For recording, I've been using a simple setup, so far reasonable results. MS Teams or Zoom meeting. Use a Condenser mike. As a starting point, reasonably useful combination. For editing I use different softwares.

When we're talking to someone face to face, we easily filter out their filler words, but they become glaringly obvious and distracting in an audio-only setting. Don't be shy about making a lot of cuts, especially for meandering guests who speak slowly and whose pauses you need to cut out. Just play back the section every time you make an edit to ensure it still sounds natural.

Typically you want your guest's perspective to shine through, and random sounds or background noise from other guests or hosts can be distracting.

Never underestimate the power of YouTube in the podcast space. It's the 2nd or 3rd most visited site on the internet, and they provide great tools for organizing and publishing your podcast.

You can easily install a banner on the email that links to a podcast distributor like Apple Podcast or Spotify.

Learning the technical side of podcasting (microphones, softwares, platforms etc) is great! However if this podcast is for your business, the most important thing is learning how to craft a great episode. The clarity and value of your message is what’s most important to see success. Use a clear hook, have planned takeaways, and strong calls to action.

After checking the boxes for the usual technical setup and sound quality the most important things to consider are the content, the pace and the tone of your podcast. Start with a bang or a punchline, maybe a current event, or a famous line or something you felt was exciting or exhilarating on that day. It may sound that whatever you felt was your personal feeling but when used in your podcast it will deliver the punch 'cos its you If possible draft a skeleton of your podcast with the intro, a brief overview, paragraphs of contents and a closing that stays with the listener and making them want for more. The thing that comes to mind is the prequel after the movie credits at the end of a Marvel movie. That would be a fitting closure.
