Last year I lost my job due to layoffs at a large corporation. I think it's important to define what you want out of your next role and see if you can develop skills in your new free time while unemployed. Update your LinkedIn, tap into your network. As someone who's background heavily focused in social media management, strategy, and analytics, I used my free time to focus on creating visual content. I bought a camera and learned photography and videography so that when I was applying to new roles I could say, hey I can do this too. Then share with your network that you are also doing this type of work. That's how I approached my time unemployed last year. It opened up several new opportunities for employment moving forward.
