To avoid embarrassment, I would hire a professional translator who can grasp the nuances of the original production and masters the technique to summarise and convey the whole meaning and tone into subtitles that are both linguistically and culturally adapted. Seriously, a software can be cheaper, but reputation cannot be bought.

I prefer Subtitle Edit. This software is easy to use and gives you many options. You can translate from an existing Subtitle, edit its timing or create a brand new subtitle.

I prefer to use AegiSub. It's simple and uncomplicated. I have been using it for over a few years now and the experience has always been seamless.

I use both Subtitle Edit and Aegisub, great freeware; and amongst paid tools, Ooona is a very good tool for subtitling projects.

Dubbing is a hard thing to do. Muche different than voice-over, You have to have the dialogues in text and practice. To translate texts for dubbing is a completley different type of translation cause if the target language is longer that the original one you have to convey the same message approximately with the same length of the original text so more than a translation it is an interpretation of the text. So be sure your text has the same length before you start using any software to dub.

That’s true, dubbing is definitely a process but when it’s worth it, it’s really worth it and you want that synchronicity nearly invisible.

You might need to play with it after the software does the dubbing for you. Change the length of sentences, tweak the wording etc. I used the dubdub tool recently for voiceover and it works pretty fine. Never tried it for dubbing though.

Ayant réalisé la traduction d'un outil de l'anglais américain vers le fran?ais, j'ai toujours essayé de trouver la meilleure traduction possible. Encore récemment, je modifie certains termes, quitte à les interpréter pour identifier la meilleure "idée".Et pour moi aujourd'hui, la traduction d'un mot n'est pas universelle : on ne peut pas faire de traduction littérale sur des thématiques techniques, il faut s'aider des utilisateurs directs (du c?ur de cible) pour établir une traduction opérationnelle qui utilise le vocabulaire du terrain.
