You have a manufacturing project to deliver. What design tools will you need?

If the design is not ready, Definitely needed. This software might be anything like AutoCAD, Creo, CATIA, Solidworks etc... Based on the type of equipment, it can be decided. If the equipment is simple and not much parallel motions (Like simple belt conveyor), then AutoCAD also sufficient. If the equipment is like Car body, Aeroplane wing etc... then definitely CATIA is better for surfacing activities. Like above, based on the equipment, it will be decided

For a manufacturing project, I would likely use computer-aided design (CAD) software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor to create detailed designs and models. These tools offer precise control and visualization capabilities crucial for manufacturing processes.

It depends on complexity of object mainly. If the object is not much complicated (means not much complicated profile), can be done with conventional machines also. If any curvature surface kind of object, definitely this is required

If the focus is optimization, then definitely it is required. Lets say the product to be manufactured in large quantities. Then optimization is must. But if the product is a machine and just need to manufacture only few, then a bit overdesign will be better than spending time on CAE

One thing I’ve observed from my time in the industry, the owner of the product usually provides the 3D Model of the part to be manufactured, sometimes with a drawing too. In this scenario, CAM packages included along with CAD becomes crucial as CAM packages bridges the gap between design and production. From generating tool paths based on 3D model while ensuring precision, to optimising tool-paths to reduce machining time by minimising material wastage and improve overall efficiency, in-turn lowering production cost, CAM solves many problems. Another advantage is that it provides simulation tools to visualize machining processes and identify potential issues, such as collisions or excessive tool wear, before actual production begins.

Useful in product design. i.e., Car, Printer, Mouse etc.. Things which we see in out side world Not much useful in machine / tool design, as these will be change as per product. Without PLM software also, can be managed
