Fortunately there a many choices when needing to rely on a virtual meeting. I tend to be flexible because the location, Wifi connection, and equipment available can vary. My go to platforms are Zoom and Microsoft Teams, but if my staff member does not have access to either - I have been known to use FaceTime. I like to stage the meeting by asking the employee to be in a quiet private setting. If this conversation is part of a disciplinary process I will either invite HR or another manager to join us or disclose that I am recording the meeting.

I am currently using Restream for my live podcasts. It is a flexible platform that allows branding your screen which important to develop a viewer base. Restream also allows me to prerecord and schedule my Lives directly to my social media channels. I use a ring light, natural window lighting and a ceiling light to set the mood that I am wanting for a specific topic. Most of my social media platforms also enable me to send invitations to attend my podcasts directly to my followers. I tend to keep my Lives short. Usually under 7 minutes and record on YouTube.

I know that this may sound simplistic and provide a "duh" moment, but beyond the various "group intimacy" tools mentioned, the tool that I have found that works well is "well written email communication". Well written emails communication (which in today's world of technology is free, free, and free) is very much a useful means of ensuring that goals are clearly spelled out; all necessary resources are communicated to; and provides a means of using the infamous "CC" feature to keep those in the "chain of command / influence" visible. Note that overuse OR bad use of the Subject field of this basic tool could result in Team members ignoring its content; so write it as if you were the one that was going to receive / read it.
