You have a boss who is not open to new ideas. How do you convince them to change their mind?

You'll need to find common ground first to make him understand your perspective, and you'll need to understand his or her perspective. Also, we need to have proper rapport with our superiors which will create a better trust level and emotional connect.

Ask if I share proven ideas & suggestions that will be effective & beneficial to the department and organization. 4. Everyone will become expanded in their learning and expertise to perform their respective jobs much better. 5. Indicate how it will make the Boss / Manager look better in front of his peers & subordinates.

In stating your opinion or ideas sometimes we need to understand what other would think first, to your superior you need to analyze what kind of person is he/she, you need to start conversation, just small talk and what he expect from your opinion or idea, seek the advice, and give your reasons for your opinion or ideas. Its human nature to give some space in their mind and just put in your words little by little in the most manner way

This is an interesting as well as a misleading question. In my view, you cannot convince them to change their mind. Rather, you should 1) assess for yourself whether their ideas are working, and 2) ask yourself if abiding by those ideas is something you can support. In short, if it's working, ask yourself what you are looking to change. Keeping an on-going "diary" will serve you well for the conversation that will ensue if their lack of curiosity is an obstacle of sorts (in time it likely will be). Even then, it is not a matter of changing their minds but rather supporting the breadth of their thoughts.

Trust is a valuable commodity when selling people on the idea of new tech, new ways of doing things, or new tools. Make him aware of the results, fundamentally you have to showcase the idea end to end in a short while. Any boss would be looking for faster results, and minimal expenses/investment. Show him how the idea gets him 3X or 4X results at a minimal cost. When he is in a good mood, and state it in a simple, straight and result oriented way. Not very complicated. Don't forget to Listen to his feedback, even if it's negative. Don't hurt his ego, and respect his experience while explaining the idea. Every human likes compliments, try it with your boss too, find a good mood and go for it??

Ensure that you have a clean outline of what you think would work. The main thing is don't pressurise them let them take away your suggestion. I find that most of the time they will bring it up in the future either to put it in place or explain their reasons why. It may take sometime but normally if the idea is good it will happen. Another thing is don't get upset if they suddenly put it forward as their idea!

Just show him evidence if you have any which can prove that your idea is better - smoother results oriented, low cost, less time required,faster and better results etc. any kind of If your logic and evidence is proper and satisfied I think there is no Boss that can deny to apply

Evidence is most important thing which has to be put front as a field service engineer, few boss with AC and office table and easy chair wouldn't release the reality of field. Once evidence becomes an object then logic works.

Understand there perspective and experience associated. The frame of context of the sitations- actions and outcome. A person comes on same wavelength, if you have build a rapport, proven you are in their team- will be doing g your job first and not opposing the view points. Experiences, Beliefs and Exposure put together have made a person who he or she is today. Expecting them to change that in a day/ week/ month is like expecting an apple to become a pear. Behaviour change is gradual and starts with building trust. Take one step at a time.

What are the benefits to your boss… more time? Better access to data? Easier reporting? For example if your boss complains about a report taking ages but previously they have resisted automated reporting software, don’t say I can make it easier as they may feel threatened about their position. Ask them “Can I look into ways that may make it easier?” You already have a solution but now it feels more collaborative to them.

A firm boss is one who doesn't back down. Not a bad trait to have but sometimes difficult to penetrate. As Stephen Covey said, seek first to understand. Appeal to his/her dreams. What outcomes does your boss desire to accomplish, what would set him/her, the department, or the company apart. After all, what's a dynamic evidence presentation, if it isn't truly valued!

1)Propose a pilot implementation of the new idea with minimal risk to present the benefits of the new idea. 2)Be patient , change takes time especially when dealing with resistant individuals.

Applying the idea of Nemawashi is helpful to build a circle of influence to your management. Nemawashi is informally instilling an idea of a proposed change or project by sharing evidence and perspective to the people concerned to gathering support and feedback before a formal engagement or idea proposal with your management. In some cultures, such as the Japanese business environment, this is a prerequisite task. Successful nemawashi enables changes to be carried out with the consent of all sides, enable others to check your logic, appeal to emotions to your stakeholders, getting feedback from your peers and providing your management the safe space to agree to your ideas.

First of all, the most important factor in convincing in change is the trust and the ability to show the needed information, proving that this change is for the best. Usually, Trust brings acceptance and, acceptance brings credibility and, credibility brings potential opportunities in reaching out when the perspective is right. So, if i am working in a good place and i have the right tools and resources, the change is a matter of time only.

Even when handled professionally, recognise that this is an example of conflict. Conflict arises when one person has a need of another that isn't being met - you need your boss to change their mind. Next comes negotiation, the points above are great examples of what form that might take. After negotiation, sometimes it's clear that your boss is never going to see it your way. Then it's decision time! Can you live with it, or is it a deal breaker? Is it simply a matter of style, or is it about your principles, core values and integrity? If the former, it doesn't really matter. If the latter, consider the effect sticking around will have on your mental health and stress levels, including outside of work. It might be time to change job.

It is time that you start working for yourself than spending time with some freaked up buffoon who will still not give any value to your new and awakening ideas or perceptions.
