Rule #1 when negotiating salary - never compare your pay with a colleague's. Bosses don’t like it. So yes, instead, compare with industry standards. Bosses love evidence, so start by researching competitors, both major and minor. Build your case with details like compensation packages, benefits, and incentive structures for a strong, well-rounded argument. Timing is also very important. Ask after completing a major project or exceeding targets. Highlight your contributions, and always have a Plan B. If the raise is declined, negotiate a timeline or other perks instead. All the best!

To secure a raise when feeling underpaid compared to industry standards, gather evidence of your contributions, achievements, and market research showing the typical compensation for your role. Schedule a meeting with your manager to discuss your performance and the value you bring to the company. Present your case professionally, highlighting your skills and accomplishments. Be prepared to negotiate and express your commitment to continued growth. If a raise isn’t possible immediately, inquire about other benefits or a timeline for future discussions.

I Agree! The best way to handle it is to do some research on industry salaries, using sites like Glassdoor or Payscale. I also make sure to list my accomplishments and how they’ve helped the company. Then, I’d schedule a meeting with my manager to discuss everything professionally. I haven’t had to negotiate a raise yet, but this is definitely the approach I’d take.
