That is a tough one. Because too often leadership expects me as agile coach to persuade others. But I strongly feel this is a management responsibility they cannot delegate. There will be some leaders who want to adopt agile. Otherwise it would't happen in the first place. So get them involved by talking to other leaders. Make sure senior leadership believes in agile. Not just the fancy marketing promises but truly understand what it takes. I would rather have leadership say 'no, I don't see this happening in our organization' then starting with agile for the wrong reasons and not willing to makes some serious mental model changes. Propose and ask buy-in for small experiment to prove value fast.

So senior managers don’t understand Agile? That’s totally normal. I’ve seen it time and time again. They want predictability, control, and are afraid of risks? Great! Let’s show them that Agile is not about chaos, it’s about flexibility. Start small — offer an experiment, show the results, and let them feel the magic themselves. But honestly, if management is not ready to change their mental models, it’s better to tell them “no” right away. Half-hearted Agile transformation is a road to nowhere.

Agile methodologies have revolutionized software development, offering increased flexibility, responsiveness, and customer satisfaction. However, introducing Agile can often face resistance from senior leadership, who may be accustomed to traditional, waterfall approaches. To overcome this pushback and successfully implement Agile, it's essential to address their concerns and demonstrate the tangible benefits. Understand Their Concerns: Risk Management: Senior leaders may worry about increased risks due to Agile's iterative nature. Address this by highlighting the early detection of issues and the ability to pivot quickly. Control and Predictability: Traditional approaches offer a sense of control and predictability.
