Why are data structures important in computer science?

Data structures are like containers that hold and organize information in a computer. They determine how data is stored and accessed, as different boxes hold and organize different items in a storeroom. There are various data structures, each with its characteristics and purposes. For example, arrays are like a row of boxes where each box has a unique number and stores a single item. Linked lists are like a chain where each link stores data and points to the next link. Trees are like a branching structure where data is organized hierarchically. Its also an evolving domain as technology advances with newer and efficient data structures!

Data structures are fundamental blocks of computer science.They are the placeholders to store any kind of data, it's retrieval and all other operations such as search, modification of data etc.They add values to computer science by making the software design and it's execution faster. Moreover right set of data structures needs to be choosen based on software requirements to efficiently manage the data and improve the software efficiency.

Data Structures are the way of organising the data in the suitcase and get goinng in the bus like program. If we organise the data , it is easy to find and use it. For example , consider the classic example of phone directory. Say we have 1 million phone number and are available in the card , one side is name and other side is their number. if organise them in the alphabetical it is easy to find and use them otherwise the room will messy and we cannot find the perfect friend number in seconds. In human life, there are also two primordial resources: food and shelter. How you use these resources determine how competitive you are, both as a programmer and as a human. Data structures solve the ultimate programming question: How fast and how lean my program can be. They calculate this using the Big O notation. Economic decisions solve the ultimate human question: How long and prosperous our lives can be. They calculate this using GDP. If programmers and all mortals do not use the right data structure and economics, then their product and society will perish, respectively.

So Data Structures are nothing just a way in which you are going to store or operate the data, Like for a simple example You are having 6 cubes, you can put 3 over 3 or 5 over 1, of 3 over 2, in the same way we are having multiple possibility. And these are important in the world of computer science because here we are completely bonded to data, either we are working on data, or for Data. One time at work , i have implemented the hash set and used it for inplace of the hash map . I mean both are great data structures but the importance of the Hash set is that it store only unique values and is perferct for our business scenario where we need to load the webservice in just seconds. I have reduced the response time of that service from 10 mins to 10 sec. I was amazed about the tremoundous improvement . Let's say you have a 1000 products and your software needs to retrieve a specific product. If those products are stored in a List then you must go through them one by one. If your products happens to be at the very end, that means you must inspect all 1000 products. However, if your products are organized as a Binary Search Tree then you can find your product in only 10 steps. That's a 100 times less products you need to look at. Even better, if you have 1.000.000 products then the Binary Search Tree gives you any requested product in just 20 steps. That's 50.000 times less steps.
