My experience is that you many times are asked to test. But you don′t get a clear explanation of what. Just because there are no clear goals or as I like to call it information goal. Then it′s just to go back to the person that asked you to test. And ask for goals or help the person define what the goal with your testing should be. The overall goal should be defined already when you create your test strategy. Then you only need a small adaption to the scope you are testing at the moment. When a goal is missing the main problem usually are the lack of a strategy.

How often do you need to test your system? How long does each testing cycle take? By planning your testing schedule, you can allocate your testing resources and prioritize your testing tasks. You can also use tools like Gantt charts, calendars, or agile boards to track your testing progress and milestones.
Once you have conducted your testing, you should review your testing results and compare them with your testing goals. How many tests did you run? How many defects did you find and fix? How many tests passed or failed? How did your system perform against your criteria? How satisfied are you with your testing quality? By reviewing your testing results, you can identify the gaps and issues in your testing process and improve your testing effectiveness and efficiency.
Another way to determine if you are ready to move on to the next phase of development is to seek feedback and approval from your stakeholders. Who are the people who have an interest or influence in your system? What are their expectations and opinions about your system? How do they evaluate your testing results? By seeking feedback and approval, you can get different perspectives and insights on your system and testing. You can also build trust and confidence with your stakeholders and ensure that your system meets their needs and standards.
Finally, you should consider the trade-offs and risks of stopping or continuing your testing. What are the benefits and costs of each option? What are the potential consequences and impacts of each option? How can you mitigate or prevent the risks of each option?
