I've started sending video messages once decision makers accept my friend request on LinkedIn. I'm trying to break up the monotony of either an immediate email or canned direct message to them. I record a very brief and personalized message to them, using their name and reiterating my expertise in their market and industry. I've gotten positive results. They will actually reply to thank me, or say they'll remember me in the future when a need arises. This is also a good lay up cold (warm) call to them in a month or two on the phone. I also do it in 1 take, I do not obsess over how I look nor have time to rerecord it a million times, as women tend to do sometimes for videos. Done is better than perfect!

This is very awkward to engage in a human to human capacity. On a cold call the person you are contacting is not expecting your call so I would say no it doesen't work. I personally always use Teams video meeting for my discovery meeting though and that works a treat.
