Also, especially in the early part of your career, you have to be super resourceful and independent. You will be left alone to work on part of a problem that is completely foreign to you. Sometimes with others who know just as little as you. Much of the help you need will be up to you (your network or team, industry analysis, google!, firm’s knowledge base, and as a last resort - your supervisor). This will put your critical thinking into overdrive and you’ll develop much faster as a consultant. It’ll be stressful but you’ll be thankful looking back.

Of course, your niche remains the area to go deep on. The T-shaped approach (deep on the niche, wide on all else) is extremely useful and will keep you top of game.

The ability to create (and verbally defend) powerful, captivating pitch decks in really short notice ends up being a huge part of your daily life. This could be compressed to a few hours notice and expect a mountain of feedback and therefore many revisions. This isn’t a “take a course” skill that can easily be developed and is more of an art than science. Practice makes perfect!
