What is your best tip for staying organized during a photography project?

A workflow is a step by step process you make to ease your work but still being productive and efficient in your work or field.

Refining your workflow is totally unsexy, but someone's gotta do it. Having an exceptional and organized workflow helps to streamline communication, elevate your client’s experience, hold you and your client accountable and anticipate needs and communicate changes before it becomes a major issue. One tip is to write out every single step of your workflow and then group into similar tasks i.e. Onboarding, Planning, Editing, etc. next upload your workflow into a CRM (customer relationship management) tool like Asana (my favorite). This helps you track the progress of each project and cross off tasks that are completed.

Let's talk about the game-changer: crafting your own workflow! Think of it like your personalized morning routine – a set of tasks that just flow without you even breaking a sweat. Start simple, like charging up your gear, tossing essentials in your bag, and ensuring your camera has memory cards. And if you need one, don't forget the media credential check! Organize your lenses for quick grabs in different scenarios. It's all about finding your rhythm and experimenting with workflows until you stumble upon the one that feels like second nature. Imagine breezing through your tasks without a second thought – that's the sweet spot we're aiming for!

Some ways to have a great workflow? - First know/scout the location where your work/Gig will be taking. - Prepare the Equipments/Gear(Cameras, tripods, lenses, Batteries, SD Cards, etc...) according to the location. - Get there early and take a few sample photos and edit to see what will make your photos look best. - Start your sessions by knowing the key guests/people. - Do what your thing(Photographing) - Edit and deliver ahead of time. - Enjoy the moments as well

Personally, I use a tool called Milanote to set up my pre-production for projects. This is integral for my workflow as it ensures I can customise that base plan for each project, as well as saving time on pre-production. This can also be done on a piece of paper, a spreadsheet etc. But I like that I can look back on past projects that are similar, copy, paste, and adjust.

In my experience I create a moodboard or look at inspirations online before the shoot and then decide what equipment I will be using and do a light test prior to the shoot and then I take the photos during the session then create a consistent editing technique to then edit my photos in a batch and for those who require more editing I divide them.

Creating a mood board prior to the shoot and studying how photographers do the shoot whether it be poses or lighting and having a consistent lighting style and editing style to your images. Reach out to the client if they like the images and ask them to review your page.
