Some of the most highly recommended OS books include Operating System Concepts by Abraham Silberschatz, Peter Baer Galvin, and Greg Gagne; Modern Operating Systems by Andrew S. Tanenbaum and Herbert Bos; and Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces by Remzi H. Arpaci-Dusseau and Andrea C. Arpaci-Dusseau. The first book covers core concepts such as processes, threads, memory management, file systems, I/O, synchronization, distributed systems, security and includes case studies of Linux, Windows and Android. The second book provides an extensive overview of modern operating systems such as multiprocessor systems, distributed systems, virtualization, cloud computing and embedded systems with examples from UNIX, Linux, Windows and Solaris. The third book is a free online resource that explains the main concepts of operating systems using three simple ideas: virtualization, concurrency and persistence with exercises, projects and code examples to help you practice your skills.

Learning or refreshing your OS knowledge can be done through taking online courses. These courses offer interactive lectures, quizzes, assignments, and projects that will help you master OS concepts and skills. Popular OS courses include Introduction to Operating Systems by Georgia Tech on Udacity, Operating Systems and You: Becoming a Power User by Google on Coursera, and Operating Systems: From 0 to 1 by Tu Nguyen on GitHub.
