Spatial analysis can help engineers answer questions such as: How does the terrain affect the design of a road? Where are the best locations for a wind farm? How will the flood risk change with different scenarios? To perform spatial analysis, engineers need to understand the concepts and principles of spatial data, such as coordinate systems, projections, topology, scale, and accuracy. They also need to be familiar with the software and tools that can perform spatial analysis, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or Python.

To do Engineering Design you need various types of skills in GIS. At first you should be able to locate optimally; for instance, when you are going to design a petrochemical, Power and etc plant you need to consider many factors and indicators and their impressive wight in our design, that in this case GIS can provide you very friendly environment to do the best and have a reliable design map. Also when you are designing, you need to manage the environmental risk treat your site from many aspects such as : flood, landslide, earthquake, fire and so on; so GIS can zoning this natural hazard and give you the plan to design and manage your assets at the beginning of the project. 2 Data management

Data management is another essential skill for engineering design professionals who use GIS. Data management involves organizing, storing, updating, and maintaining spatial data in a way that ensures its quality, integrity, and accessibility. Data management can include tasks such as: creating and editing spatial data, importing and exporting data formats, documenting metadata, setting up data models and schemas, and implementing data security and backup policies. To manage data effectively, engineers need to have knowledge of the different types of spatial data, such as vector, raster, point cloud, and network data. One of the most important advantages of GIS is the powerful and flexible database you can design using the most expandable software (such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, ArcSDE, ArcGIS) which can provide a high-quality and secure warehouse to create, edit, import, and export, search, back up, and exchange the metadata. It should also be noted, that GIS lets you store the various types and formats of data such as vector (shapefile, and so on, raster (image, DEM, DTEM, Interpolation result, and so on), network data, etc. for a long time
