Data collection process and mechanism may vary depending on the use cases. Majority of the Enterprise use cases will have data created and stored in multiple applications. These data stores will act as Data sources for ETL tools to push it across into Data Warehouse.

Data Analysis can be done by using multiple tools depending upon the use cases. Simple analysis can be done within Excel and if the data and analysis are complex then Tableau, Power BI, Qlik can be used. Traditional reporting tools like SAP BO, MS SSRS and Crystal reports can also be used based on the need

Now a days tools like Power BI and Qlik does provide options to create a data story within the tools based on large data set and the same can be exported in terms of PPT along with narratives to create a compelling story.

Try to understand the business. Domain knowledge is important but in the case of BI - this is essential. Knowing all about the tools is obvious. But when the IT team understands only BI and the business team understands business there is some gap between. Within this gap are the best ideas and solutions. Help the business understand BI limits and advantages and try to understand the business more, ask "Five whys" and try to understand objectives of reports.
