What tools can help you create ad designs that are optimized for social media platforms?

Crafting captivating ad designs requires the right tools. Visual editing platforms like Canva and Adobe Spark offer templates and design elements to create eye-catching ads. With drag-and-drop interfaces, adjusting layouts, colors, and fonts becomes seamless. Recently, while promoting eco-friendly fashion accessories, we used these tools. Experimenting with various elements, we found the perfect balance between elegance and sustainability. These tools aren't just about visuals; they're about storytelling. Tools are just tools, you can draw it on a napkin and if the concept and execution are strong enough it will be successful. Everything has its place, if you are making many iterations of something, it makes sense to make a template you reuse and tweak each time which probably means you want to use something like photoshop to make the template etc. If you use a premade thing, then you will look/sound like the many people that use the same premade template or whatever, it is up to you but remember that a tool is just that, a tool.

We're not using any ready-made tools, so Canva is out of our tasks. Our main tools are Figma and Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign from Adobe. With some movement based we also use After Effects and Blender.

Adobe Express has all the tools you need and even allows you to schedule posts. You can set up brands with logos, colors, fonts, and templates as well.

Canva has the benefits of being user-friendly for those who don’t have extensive design experience and allows for various templates and pre-created elements to be utilized. It’s drag and drop functionality make it easy to get familiar with. Adobe Creative Cloud, and Adobe Illustrator in particular for web-based graphics, allow for unparalleled creativity to create designs that perfectly fit your needs. The software can be harder for entry-level designers who don’t have prior experience with the software, but learning it will pay off. Both systems have started delving into Generative AI as well, which can enhance your personal skills.

Image banks were a necessary evil once upon a time, making your own images was very pricey and being flush enough to hire an illustrator was akin to being a millionaire in designer world. Thankfully this is no longer the only way, yes I know, everyone loves to bash on gen ai but guess what, best tool for stock you can find. Yeah, you need to learn to prompt the machine (really, this is a complaint I hear...seriously??) but alas, saves you from looking like every other stock using company and does not cost a fortune ;)

Mostly we are using Unsplash and Shutterstock, In Figma, mainly Unsplash, since it is integrated and good for sample imaging. Still, depends on the task and content, finding a right image is most cases cheaper and more effective to do with custom solution.

Envato Elements is one of my favorite resources for finding assets to use in design work. If you are willing to invest in the subscription, you will be rewarded with a massive library of photos, videos, vector art, and more to enhance any design project. A great backup is Pexels which serves as another good options for royalty-free photos and videos to use in your work. The library isn’t as robust as Envato Elements, but still has a great asset here and there to take advantage of, especially if you can afford to have the full Envato Elements subscription and need a one-off asset for a project.

Personally I enjoy things like motionleap for a bunch of animations, for more involved stuff premier and after effects. I expect that in a very near future all of these will basically cease to exist with things like sora taking their place

Absolutely, you're spot on. While animation certainly has the potential to elevate social media ads, the key lies in creativity and relevance. Simply adding animation for the sake of it won't necessarily yield the desired engagement. Personally I find these to be superfluous, I have my premade templates that ensure I have the right sizes etc off the bat, as to color schemes and such, well it really depends on the client's identity and I rather not have the machine dictate what that is. If anything you can tweak said templates to carry that information and thats it. Don't get me wrong, automation is amazing, but not for the sake of it. It is just another tool and if you allow the tool to dictate the way, you cease to be the designer and become the tool
