I find load sheets handy. They list who is on for the day and where they will work. If anything strange crops up, changes can be made on the fly without much disruption to the operation. The key is not to deprive the client of the best experience they can have.

Customers can be more than the purchasers of your products. For example, the carrier picking up customer orders is also important. They want to get in and get out quickly because they are on the clock and dwell time hurts the income potential. In this scenario, working backward from the appointment time (assuming the carrier/driver is on-time), you can release picks destined for that truck just -in-time to complete when the truck arrives at the dock door. This minimizes the time the door is tied up and also gets the driver moving again quickly.
