How do I know if my list is any good? One method that I've found effective is to start with listing "what" you are trying to safeguard. This is a relatively easier list to make. Let's suppose this is the personally identifiable data processed by your company. Next, you chalk out all the doors and windows to these crown jewels. Who/what has direct or indirect access to this data? From here, you can go on to identifying risks on each such entity. Hopefully, this will help convert the magic dark art of risk identification to a simpler list making exercise.

Before deciding on Risk Prioritization , and after analyzing the Risk Impact , Risk Tolerance should also be checked - Risk Tolerance is the max risk an organization can handle. There can be different factors involved to decide on the tolerance level by an organization - it can be financial , resources, operational or cybersecurity , but based on industry standards, budget and regulatory requirements an organization can have different level of Tolerance. If a risk exceeds the max level of Risk Tolerance level , it is prioritized the highest to resolve.
