With TBL we can encourage them to use the language they know to complete the task successfully and monitor their progress and offer assistance when necessary, but allow them to take ownership of the task.

I can't properly say I'm an innovator but 12 years ago, during my last run as a teacher, I applied to main goals: 1.- Setting "real" scenarios where my students would use the English language: this could be from menial tasks (for beginners) like asking for directions or ordering food to complex scenarios (advanced students) like developing a sales presentation for a mock product. This really helps them realize the utility of learning an additional language.

Because students are motivated to learn language that is immediately useful to them in completing tasks and approach reflects how language is used in real life and allows students to develop their language skills simultaneously by using TBL Teachers can tailor tasks to suit the diverse learning styles and preferences of their students, making learning more personalized and effective.

Task-based learning should be used when teaching ESL because I find that many ESL curriculums are too focused on grammar, vocabulary, and such drills. Back when I was an ESL Teaching Assistant a few summers ago, the emphasis was on daily English conversation, as this is a necessary life skill to have, and thus, is in line with task-based learning. You can also be flexible and make it relevant to the students, and account for their interests as well.

But my main focus would rely on setting the language for everyday tasks (e. g., hailing a cab, then giving directions) and then, after mastering this, learning the grammar layers and rules. Yes, grammar, syntax and ortograph are important, but I believe nothing beats a person that can express an idea clearly on a language that's not their native tongue.

We can make plans for a TBL lesson by first of all,make sure students understand what they need to do and why it is important and encourage them to use the language they know to complete the task successfully that follow-up activities or related tasks to further reinforce learning.

Students collaborate to plan, using the language. Monitor and offer help. After, discuss their plans and language use, providing feedback for improvement.
