Sometimes it's just easier (if possible) to replace the cable first. If the new cable works, then look at the other cable for damage, or toss it in the trash and move on to the next project ;-)

On computer ethernet ports there are usually two leds (on some machines there are no leds)?One represents the connection state (fixed light) and the other represents activity. The orange light may show the link speed, such as 10/100 Mbps or 1 Gbps, while the green light indicates the data transmission occurring on the cable. On the other hand, if the blinking lights are accompanied by network connectivity issues, it could suggest a problem with the connection. When the green LED is on, there is 10/100/100Mbps traffic. When the orange LED is on, the port is being connected, but no data is being transferred. When the orange LED is blinking, data is being transferred. When the orange LED is off, no data is being transferred.
