In one of my previous roles I learned what the true difference between a senior developer and junior developer. As a junior developer, you are tasked with writing functional code and preparing adequate tests and checks for it. As you progress into a senior developer role however, you dive more into how the software will run in production, where it will live, and even its cost effectiveness. One of the best conversations I had with my first manager, was understanding the path between an entry software engineer, and a senior software engineer. There is a level of skill and experience, but I learned that there is also opportunity to build a skills before you qualify for the position.
