What are the steps to becoming a successful Back-end developer?

Take your time to choose your programming language carefully understand its strength and weaknesses, then learn basic programming concepts, e.g classes, functions, loops, reading data, requests & response, debugging, data types etc. you can then move to learn backend programming in your chosen language, remember to have a little torch on frontends as well. Learn rendering pages, handle different types of requests, learn cookies, authentication, authorization, database integrations and queries. Learn to handle errors, then learn APIs to write a more efficient code remember to take a course “data structures and algorithms” in your respective language. Good luck

Mostly at this stage focus on crud, and have a great understanding of the client server architecture and the components of an http request, aswell as common headers

Do not delve into the depths of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript until you integrate APIs. I strongly believe that we should have a solid understanding of how frontend, backend, web, and servers work. If you're a backend developer, a good understanding of CRUD operations is essential. If you know how to create CRUD APIs, you can build anything in the backend.

I am a true believer of "building your foundation strong". If you understand the concept of OOP You should be able to tackle with any of its implementations. I am a Java person but it doesn't take much time to analyze Python, Rail or node code... I agree sometime semantics might take a bit of your time to get adjusted to that ecosystem but the logical implementation remain similar..

Always have two or three languages in your tool set. This will make you more versatile . Knowing the pros and cons of each language and being able to pick the best tool for the job is important for a backend developer.

- I’ll recommend starting with a language that’s simple to read like python or JavaScript. - Learn the basic syntax for functions, classes, loops etc - Narrow your learning to a framework or runtime environment e.g nodejs, Django, springboot etc For nodejs, completely narrow down to a nodejs framework like ExpressJs. - Start out small by building a small Api project with that chosen framework and try to be proficient in that framework. - Extend to try out another framework in that same language -Observe and experiment with both frameworks and learn how to choose the right framework for a project type. Knowing the best framework for a project will bring ease & make you stand out. -Repeat the same steps when learning a new lang.

Always view a language as another tool in a toolbox. Be sure to always be open-minded to experiment with other languages! Good starting points are JavaScript and Python ?? As you will learn, every language has it's quirks, but in the end they all achieve the same thing.

Nodejs is not a language... it's a runtime for running JavaScript codes outside of the browsers... And yes... it's better if you know more than one language...

SQLs are best for projects with a lot of dependencies between models while non-SQLs are perfect from horizontal scaling. Understand your project requirements and choose the best suited database type. Also learn how to combine database types e.g how to use redis for caching and an SQL or No-SQL as the main database.

For document data I seen tremendous value leveraging mongo.. But for relational and transactional data its always Oracle or mysql.

It is important to know the basic operations in databases and knowing which operations can be performed. ORMs really help with avoiding queries, but there are complex operations between different entities that require more knowledge. It is also important to learn database design and understand how entities communicate between each other.

APIs are vital in backend development, facilitating efficient data transfer, operational efficiency, and improved user experiences by connecting different software systems. API contracts, comprehensive documents outlining specific behaviors and data structures, serve as a single source of truth for both frontend and backend teams.

APIs are like menus in a restaurant: they present a list of options (services and data) that one application can use from another, without needing to understand how the underlying system works. Get familiar with authentication and authorization methods as well as documentation methods such as Swagger. Bonus points for versioning strategies !

A well designed API should be well documented (investigate about OpenAPI) and when developing them the focus should be in testing. Learning about dependency inversion and clean architectures helped me develop really testable APIs.

At this point, it may be a good idea to invest in a practitioner cloud certification like AWS, GCP or Azure. Also be sure to try and use the knowledge to try and deploy a simple web app or project you are working on. Always be careful of unintended costs when using Cloud Providers.

Often diving deep into the code of open-source production-grade frameworks (like Spring in my case) can help develop your code reading/understanding skills way more than you think. If you do it right, you'll realize you'll start to pick up incorporated design patterns just by looking at a couple of lines of code. In my experience, a good code observer is a good code writer..

Learn how to make such a block of codes which can be reused across different parts of your web application. I would add a section of studying design patterns and architecture. At least knowing about them and their general usages. Over time, learning them become easier once you know why you spend time studying it.

I recommend using the pomodoro technique, to measure study and practice time and avoid distractions. Furthermore, something that always helps me is having written down the topics that I need to reinforce to study them in my free time. You can also write down different ideas for your own projects that have different difficulties, starting from the easiest to the most difficult.

En mi opinión, la mejor forma de aprender es enfrentarse a desafíos o trabajar en proyectos, incluso si no se poseen todos los conocimientos necesarios. La experiencia y los errores que cometemos son excelentes maestros. Al abordar un proyecto e implementarlo en un peque?o entorno o negocio, se puede crear un prototipo base para una futura aplicación o software, e incluso, ?quién sabe?, una startup.
