What are some ways to show that you are a strategic thinker?

Cultivamos el pensamiento estratégico cada vez que pensamos en las consecuencias de determinadas decisiones, ya sean propias (en el trabajo, la familia, etc.) o ajenas (del gobierno, de la empresa en la que trabajamos, etc.) y nos detenemos a analizar ex-post lo que ocurrió. En síntesis, creo que el pensamiento estratégico es el fruto del aprendizaje permanente sobre las experiencias.

A strategic thinker is more of a process-oriented individual who's able to assign degrees and categorize the overall circumstances. He/she can mastermind a plan, befitting enough to cope with the gravity of the situation. Exploiting strengths, overcoming weaknesses, seizing opportunities, and countering threats is how you make the best of the SWOT framework. Mind you, all of the 4 are interrelated. Someone with the ability to strategize does know how to make the best of strengths in the face of weaknesses while he/she can gain an advantage when external factors pose many threats.

A strategic thinker will have 3 A- Accumen-is about how you think: your ability to understand a situation, generate new ideas to move from the current to desired future state, and solve challenges to create new value. Allocation- is about how you plan. Strategic thinkers set goals, distribute resources, recognize the risk and tradeoffs when making decisions, and create advantage by offering superior value. Action- is about what you do. Preparing a business strategy is only one step; how you implement your strategy determines your success. This requires the ability to collaborate with others, execute strategies to achieve goals, and optimize your personal performance.

As you communicate your vision/goals - show how these link up to the broader org's vision/goals (upstream) and then how they will connect with downstream team level goals. Understanding these connections is key to ownership, buy-in and understanding of purpose and the so-what behind what is being done.

An important trait that I benefit from is looking at the glass the way it is without any perception of half full or half empty. Being realistic rather than positive or negative wrt future calms me. This gives me more clarity to anticipate. I love to ask Qs, stupid, hard, big, tough etc. questioning and poking holes prompts thinking in diverse ways and then I like to assign probability of the event or situation happening. That gives me clarity on how to prepare and assess how prepared I am.

Además de conocer, entender e identificarse con la misión, visión de la empresa, así como la capacitación continua y el dar resultados acorde a los objetivos estratégicos, es importante sumar valor a todo lo que hacemos, la integridad, la honestida, el ser leal, apegado siempre a decir la verdad, enriquece que el equipo sea inspirado a realizar todo con transparencia, además de que una vez que ven al líder actuar de ésta manera reconociendo también sus propios errores, entonces no sólo habrá empatía sino una mayor confianza para alzar la mano y decir lo que realmente están necesitando para alcanzar sus metas.

Illustrate and clearly articulate an understanding of the larger context for the work, alongside the "why" of the work. This will help you to generate relevant and actionable strategic solutions and priorities - motion forward - while avoiding circular strategic thinking without follow-through.
