As an example, the data access patterns, query performance, database size, consistency and maintenance overtop of scalability is a starting point to normalize a database design that impacts denormalization. Ensure that the pathway you choose does not compromise data consistency. Redundant data can lead to inconsistencies if not updated correctly. Ensure that any redundant data is kept in sync with the original data.

Denormalization in your database can be selective, tailored to specific needs. Focus on frequently accessed, joined, or aggregated tables/columns, or those with low cardinality. Denormalize relevant attributes for queries/reports while leaving the rest normalized. This balances benefits and costs, minimizing unnecessary overhead.
