In my experience, the major pitfalls I see in organisations and employers seeking help is a lack of detail. Be specific and transparent about what you’re looking for. If it’s volunteer or profit share, say that. If it’s paid, give the pay range. The more transparent an employer is the more honest and straightforward support they are likely to get from their hires.

I agree. Having specific training material and programmes are key. On the job training is one thing, but that doesn’t mean people can just watch and learn. Help them help you, especially when we’re talking about apprenticeships or internships. There has to be tangible education.

I manage a small paid team of technicians with support from a dedicated team of volunteers. Treating them with the same respect as you would do a paid person is key. Keeping them informed of the progress you are making as a production crew on any project you are working on is so important when motivating your team.
